East Hall High School is excited to announce that Matt Turner, an EHHS graduate from the class of 2001, will be the new head football coach for the upcoming school year. Coach Turner has coached at East Hall High School from 2009 – 2017 as the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator. As the offensive coordinator at East Hall, he was able to lead some of the best offenses, statistically, in school history and in the state. As offensive coordinator, he was able to help guide the team to the playoffs 3 out of 4 years and to the “Sweet 16” in 2017. Austin Parker, the quarterback during Coach Turner’s time at East Hall, finished his career Top 5 in the state, all-time, for passing yards and touchdowns. “I was fortunate to work alongside Head Coach Bryan Gray for 10 years as he built a great program at East Hall. Coach Gray has been a great mentor to me, and his guidance has been invaluable to my growth as a coach” said Coach Turner.
In 2020, Coach Turner was the offensive coordinator at Lakeview Academy and was able to coach and learn under Coach Shaw as Lakeview reached the playoffs for the first time in school history. Turner comments that “Coach Shaw is the best I’ve ever seen of getting players to believe that they can be successful. It was a great experience being able to coach with him last season. I have been blessed to coach and mentor under some great head coaches that have prepared me for this opportunity.”
“I’m excited to be the next head football coach at East Hall. I know that this is a special place, and we have a great opportunity here to develop players for success on and off the field. Our motto will be one of “Team 1st” and togetherness. It will always be about the team, and we will always make decisions in the best interest of our players and community. Our vision will be to develop the character of players while striving to be the best “East Hall” we can be on the football field. I am an East Hall graduate, I live in this area, and I am grateful for the opportunity to invest in the players here and embrace our community. I’m excited to get started and want to thank the administration for this opportunity,” said Coach Turner.
“Coach Turner is able to bring to East Hall a high level of offensive knowledge and an even better understanding of our East Hall Community. Coach Turner is an excellent teacher in the classroom and on the field. He is willing to put in the hours to guide East Hall back into the playoffs” said Adam Rich (Athletic Director). “We are excited about the coaching staff we are hoping to assemble and the plan Coach Turner has for the program beginning with spring practice.”
Coach Turner has his bachelor’s degree from UGA, Masters of Education at UNG, and Specialist from Liberty University. Coach Turner has been married for 10 years to wife Keri Turner and has a 3-year-old son, Luke Turner.
